Eleven Inexpensive and Fun Wedding Favor Ideas

Are you tired of seeing the same little net bags of sugar coated almonds sitting on the table at every wedding you’ve ever attended? If you want to stand out from the crowd with your wedding favors, but do not want to spend a fortune on them, here are some great wedding favor ideas.

1. Buy small candles from your local candle or craft store. The smaller candles are often two for a dollar. Wrap the candles in gold netting and tie the netting together at the top with a bow. Attach a short poem with the bride and groom’s names and the date of the wedding to the bow.

2. Potpourri can be bagged up in netting, as well. Again, make the favor special by attaching the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date to the bags.

3. For spring or fall weddings, consider giving your guests a permanent reminder of your wedding with a seed packet. You can personalize the gift by making a slipcover for the seed packet on your computer. Put your wedding information on your seed packet slipcover.

4. Another great wedding favor that you can find locally is a potted plant. Don’t look for big, showy specimens. Your local home and garden store should have their smallest houseplants for less than two dollars each. Wrap the pots in florist paper or spray paint them with your wedding colors to add a decorative touch. Then, buy florist picks and use them to stick a tag with the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date into the pot.

5. If your guests enjoy pampering themselves, consider using wedding themed soaps as your wedding favors. Wrap up a few soaps or a bath bomb in your wedding colors. Heart or dove shapes are easy to find locally.

6. Buy a few boxes of your favorite tea and make a personalized cover for each teabag. Just glue the old tea bag cover right over the original one.

7. Buy tins of your favorite mints and find labels that will cover the lid. Print your personalized labels out using your computer and then stick them onto the tins. For a special touch, hot glue a dried rose bud to each tin.

8. If you have access to a laminating machine, you can make personalized bookmarks for your wedding favors. Use the bookmark template on your computer’s word processing software to make the bookmarks. Put your favorite love poem on one side of each bookmark and put your wedding information on the other side. (Make sure the poem you use is in the public domain or have a friend write an original poem about your love.) Print out the bookmarks and run them through the laminating machine. If you don’t have a laminating machine, you can still make bookmarks. Just use heavier cardstock so the bookmarks will last.

9. Personalize a chocolate bar or a small box of chocolates. Your computer’s software should have an easy to use template so that you can print off slipcovers for chocolate bars. To personalize boxes of chocolates, you will need to buy labels that fit on the box tops. For a special touch, write your wedding information in calligraphy on the labels.

10. For a winter wedding, consider giving an ornament as a wedding favor. You can buy wooden ornament shapes from your local craft store and paint and decorate them for personalized favors, or you can just buy ornaments that have a special meaning for the bridal couple.

11. Do you love books? Hit the sale table at your local bookstore and then print your own bookplates with your wedding information for each book.

Finally, no matter what favors you use for your wedding, don’t forget that the most important part of the day is your ceremony and remember to enjoy your special day.
